An Update from the President of the
Canadian Radiological Foundation

Ian Hammond, MD, FRCPC, FACR
June 2013

President’s Comments

It is my pleasure to draw your attention to those items that were supported by the Canadian Radiological Foundation (CRF) in 2012–2013. You will see that these include three scientific research studies, the very important CAR position paper on the lifecycle of medical imaging equipment due out later this year, and the CAR Annual Scientific Meeting awards. The CRF Board believes that all these undertakings fulfill the essential mandate of the Foundation to advance the art and science of radiology in Canada. This work would not be possible without the generous contributions of our members, and I would especially like to thank those of you who have donated to the CRF.

The CRF is also looking at other projects to support in 2013 including a potential pan-Canadian appropriateness/quality study and an initiative supporting international work in underdeveloped/developing countries. More details on these will be shared in the future.

CAR Lifecycle Guidance for Medical Imaging Equipment in Canada

The CRF is participating in an important project that the CAR is leading to create national guidance on the acquisition and maintenance of medical imaging technology. As jurisdictions grapple with increasing pressures on the healthcare system, we believe more than ever that such guidance is a critical part of the solution to health resource management for all jurisdictions. COMING LATER IN 2013!

CAR Annual Scientific Meeting Awards

The CAR Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) is a great occasion to recognize the dedication and tremendous work of our fellow colleagues and to advance Canadian radiology research. In keeping with the CRF’s mandate to promote radiology research, the CRF is pleased to have sponsored the following 2013 ASM awards. Congratulations to all the winners!
