A Message from the President of the
Canadian Radiological Foundation

Ian Hammond, MD, FRCPC, FACR
December 2016

As another year-end approaches, I wish to extend best sincere thanks on behalf of the Canadian Radiological Foundation Board members to all radiologists who have contributed to the foundation in 2016. If you have not already done so, it's not too late. Please make a tax-deductible donation for 2016 today.

The CRF is entirely dependent upon the generosity of its donors in order to fulfil its mission in the support of education and research in Canadian radiology. I am very pleased to report below on the activities which we were able to fund in 2016.

2016 CRF Projects

Leadership Course

In 2016, one of the biggest projects taken on by the CRF was the development of a new leadership course for radiologists: Leadership in Radiology - Optimizing Your Practice's Efficiency. Working collaboratively with the CAR and the University of British Columbia Sauder School of Business, the course, will take place on April 18 and 19, 2017 in Montreal.

This is a very exciting and vital project that will benefit the future of our profession by fostering the needed leadership skills to impact the future of the Canadian healthcare system and help future generations see beyond – and discover new frontiers. Register here.

CAR/CRF Leadership Scholarships

The CRF, in conjunction with the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR), awarded a scholarship to Dr. Ania Kielar, a practicing radiologist at The Ottawa Hospital, to attend the annual RLI Leadership Summit, held from September 8-11, 2016, at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

The CRF also selected Dr. Mitch Wilson, a resident at the University of Alberta, to attend the three-month Harvard Emerging Leaders Seminar online course which took place from January 26 to April 12, 2016.

Both participants greatly appreciated the opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills.

CIR 2016

The CRF sponsored Dr. Maria Cortés, a radiologist specialized in neuroradiology and interventional neuroradiology of the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital, to attend and lecture at the XXVII Congreso del Colegio Interamericano de Radiología (CIR 2016) which was held in Lima, Peru, from September 8-10, 2016.

CAR Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) Contests and Awards

In keeping with its mandate to promote radiology research, the CRF was also pleased to fund all the prizes for the CAR ASM contests, awarded during the 79th Annual Scientific Meeting in April 2016:
