April 22 to 25, 2010
Montréal, Québec

Your CAR is at work for you on Parliament Hill in response to the Chalk River reactor shutdown and the resulting shortage of medical isotopes. If nuclear medicine tests cannot be performed, alternative imaging tests through radiology may be requested. Therefore, it is critical that radiologists be directly involved in developing solutions to a shortage.

In recent weeks, the CAR has joined Health Canada's Ad Hoc Health Experts Working Group on Medical Isotopes, and President Ted Lyons and Board member, Nimu Ganguli, have taken part in conferences with politicians.

On Tuesday, June 9, President Ted Lyons and Vice President Jacques Lévesque gave a presentation to the Standing Committee on Natural Resources which is undertaking a study of the issue. We are pleased to share with you the CAR's statement to the Committee: The Canadian Association of Radiologists ready to collaborate on isotope shortage.

Our best regards,

Adele Fifield, O.Ont., CAE, B.A., B.Ed.
