This message is further to our message of June 10th in which we shared how the CAR is actively working on your behalf to help address the challenges caused by an isotope shortage resulting from the shutdown of the Chalk River reactor. If nuclear medicine tests cannot be performed, alternative imaging tests through radiology may be requested; therefore, it is critical that radiologists be directly involved in developing solutions to a shortage.

We now share with you an update from Covidien (click here to access the document) on the supply of molybdenum 99 expected through August. This assists planning for nuclear medicine physicians as well as all radiologists who must assess any potential increased demand for other imaging such as CT and MRI.

Best regards,

Adele Fifield, O.Ont., CAE, B.A., B.Ed.
